St. Mary’s welcomes new Director of Religious Education

St. Mary’s Catholic School is very excited to have Mrs. Tracie Key joining the
St. Mary’s family as Director of Religious Education and high school religion
teacher. Her husband, Barney, and she are originally from Many and have
been married for 27 years. Her family moved to Natchitoches two years ago
and her youngest, Gavin, will start kindergarten at St. Mary’s in the fall. They also have two older children, Jeb (25), who is in seminary at Notre Dame in New Orleans; and Molly (21), who is a senior at University of Louisiana at Lafayette majoring in Chemical Engineering. Mrs. Key has a degree in nursing from Northwestern State University and has practiced for over 20 years. She has been a school nurse, research nurse, and a labor and delivery nurse.

Mrs. Key shares that her Catholic faith has always been a very important part of her life. She has taught religion in a parish setting for over 15 years, as well as serving as a lector, extraordinary minister of Holy Communion, youth leader, and altar server sponsor. As a high school religion teacher, she feels that it is her job to plant the seeds of love for Christ, a mature understanding of our Catholic Faith, a true love and empathy for our fellow man, and to provide instruction and example for living a genuine Christian life.

As Mrs. Key begins this new adventure, she asks for your prayers and shares this verse from James 3:1, “Not many of you should become teachers, my brothers, for you know that we who teaches will be judged with greater strictness, for we all fall short in many respects.”

  1. I have known Tracie Troha Key all her life and Saint Mary’s School has added an asset of the highest level of our human Christian Life. I first heard her pray as part of her beginning day when she was four, saying, “God bless my Teacher.” As she has grown through life, so has her Christian Faith. It reflects in it’s highest standard in her chosen husband. In my family’s opinion her oldest Child could become the Pope and there is no limit to what Molly will bring to God’s world and Gavin will make positive headlines at SMHS.
Congratulations St Mary’s for a brilliant decision.
