Several hundred young scholars and their families got ready for the upcoming school year at the Back to School Expo held Thursday, August 1 at the Natchitoches Events Center. There was a lot to do and see as over 21 booths from each of the parish schools and various community partners educated parents on the different services offered to students and families. The expo was a superb opportunity to meet your child’s teachers and principal. School Board members, Steven Harris, Beverley Broadway, Reba Phelps and Billy Benefield hosted a booth at the expo, giving parents an opportunity to meet their board member and express any concerns they may have.
The fair was about more than learning and getting ready for the upcoming year. Each of the first 312 students to enter was given a backpack filled with school supplies. In addition, many of the booths also gave away school supplies as well as other prizes.
The parish’s schools start classes on August 8.
The Natchitoches Parish Journal is excited about the opportunities the upcoming year offers and wishes the parish’s young people all the best. Our children are the equal of any in the country and will rise to any challenge presented to them. We look forward to chronicling the often unsung excellence that happens every day in the Natchitoches Parish Public Schools.
