Four Lakeview high school students performed with the 2019 Louisiana Bandmasters Association All-Star BLAST Honor Band, an ensemble comprised of young musicians from around the state. Junior Joliviya (“Jo”) Porter was first chair in the trumpet section, and junior Jeffrey Kain Custis was first chair baritone horn. Both students were performing with one of the L.B.A. All-Star Bands for the third consecutive year. Senior Myla Porter was second chair baritone horn, and senior Mathew Johnson played snare drum. Both seniors were performing with the L.B.A. All-Star BLAST Honor Band for the second consecutive year. Ms. Denise Roper is their band director at Lakeview.
The honor band was hosted by Tioga High School on June 2-3. The performance consisted of The Star-Spangled Banner, The Avengers, Thunder, Titan Spirit (from Remeber the Titans), Theme from Ant-Man, Music from Black Panther, and Sweet Caroline.
“It was one of the more challenging programs to play, but the participants were really nice,” said Porter. “It sounded great and felt great to get a different experience with new people. It helped me mature as a musician and get to know others.”
