Saturday, Aug. 17 was a busy day indeed in Natchitoches as both Northwestern State University and the Louisiana School for Math, Science & the Arts students moved into their dorms. The school welcomed 322 students in addition to the 40 LSMSA Student Ambassadors who came in early to assist.
The Louisiana School for Math, Science and the Arts is unique in our state and one of a handful in the nation. It is a residential public high school in which classes are taught at a collegiate level. The school boasts 40 faculty members, 76% of whom have terminal degrees in their subjects. The school offers some truly challenging courses such as differential equations, linear algebra and chaos theory. In addition to the standard courses, students may also choose from dystopian literature or infectious diseases. The LSMSA also teaches Latin, Chinese, Arabic and German among other languages. Their dance, music and theater departments do several productions each semester.
The Louisiana School for Math, Science and the Arts is a life changing opportunity for its students. The Natchitoches Parish Journal wishes the young men and women of the LSMSA all the best in the upcoming school year. We are looking forward to seeing great things from you in the future!
