The Women’s Resource Center is pleased to announce that their 13th annual Celebration of Life Gala will be held Thursday, Sept. 26 at the Natchitoches Events Center. The program will begin at 6:30 p.m. followed by an elegant buffet dinner catered by Lasyone’s Restaurant. Tickets are available for $25 each and must be purchased in advance, as seating is limited. There are a variety of sponsorships levels still available at $100, $250, $500, $1000, $2500, and $5000.

The WRC is hosting this event to allow them to continue to serve the more than 400 women they see every year. These women come from over seven different parishes, most of them young, in need, and experiencing an unplanned pregnancy. Services include information, emotional and spiritual support and encouragement, and material assistance up to a year after her child is born. These services are designed to give a woman the confidence she needs to make a life affirming choice for her unborn child, aid her in having a healthy pregnancy, and to equip her to be a successful woman and mother. This is the one major fundraising event held by the WRC each year and plays a large role in allowing WRC to continue to provide all services free of charge to clients.

The speaker this year, Shawn Carney, began in the pro-life movement in college as a volunteer and after college was asked to be the Executive Director of the Coalition for Life, the organization where he volunteered which is made up of over 60 churches.

In 2004, Shawn helped to lead the first-ever 40 Days for Life campaign in College Station, TX. 40 Days for Life has confirmed reports of over 15,000 mothers choosing life and 186 abortion center workers who have had conversions and left their jobs, including former Planned Parenthood director, Abby Johnson. Shawn and his wife are portrayed in the 2019 film, Unplanned, which tells the beautiful story of Abby Johnson’s conversion.

Shawn is a regular media spokesperson and his work has been featured on hundreds of media outlets and has also produced and hosted award-winning pro-life documentaries that have aired in 128 million homes via the Eternal Word Television Network.

As an activist who is also an author, Shawn writes prolifically. He is the co-author of the Amazon Top Rated Christian book, 40 Days for Life, and the host of the popular pro-life podcast, 40 Days for Life. Shawn’s new book, The Beginning of the End of Abortion, became a national bestseller and was endorsed by Gov. Mike Huckabee, Eric Metaxas, Bishop Thomas Olmsted, and Ruth Graham.

Shawn’s experience in local and national pro-life ministry has led him across America, inspiring audiences at pregnancy center events, conferences, fundraising banquets, churches, colleges, and high schools. His passion for helping women and the unborn is contagious. Shawn lives in Texas with his wife and seven children.

All of the gala guests will have an opportunity to meet Shawn prior to the program. A photographer will also be available at no charge to guests for having a picture made with Shawn.

Within walking distance of NSU, the WRC was founded in 1989 to offer assistance and guidance to young women facing difficult life situations most often due to unplanned pregnancies. Since that early beginning, thousands of young women have been served by providing them with life affirming options counseling, prenatal education, ultrasound, childbirth instruction, breastfeeding education, parenting classes, material assistance, liaison to community assistance, and follow up after babies are born. Nurses are on staff as well as 20 trained volunteers who provide thousands of hours each year in service.

Thanks to the generous contributions of individual supporters, organizations, churches, and businesses, the WRC reaches hundreds of young women each year from all walks of life without charging for any service. Dr. Martin Aviles OB/GYN serves as Medical Director.

Tickets may be purchased at the Women’s Resource Center located at 107 North Street in Natchitoches or by calling (318) 357-8888.
