A good week for the Northwestern State soccer team was made even better, as freshman Hallie Field was named Southland Conference Defender of the Week Tuesday, the league announced.

It is the first weekly honor in her young career, and the first for the Lady Demons (3-5) since Brittany Caserma won SLC Offensive Player of the Week last September. She is the first player for NSU to be named Defensive Player of the Week since Patry Carrion in October 2016.

“We’re really happy for Hallie,” co-head coach Jess Jobe said. “She is a threat offensively as well, scoring the winner against Texas State. We’re proud of how Hallie has played.

“She is very deserving of this recognition. It was a team effort. Hallie is getting recognition, but the players around her deserve credit as well. Hallie, Natalee (Henry) and Nicole (Henry) have played really well as a unit.”

On Friday, the Frisco, Texas, native scored the only goal against Texas State in a 1-0 win, heading a shot in from the box off a corner kick from Maddie Scott.

She helped lead a defense that allowed a combined one goal in back-to-back wins against Texas State and UL Lafayette, playing all 200 minutes in the two victories.

NSU begins its Southland Conference slate Friday when it travels to Nacogdoches, Texas, to take on rival Stephen F. Austin.
