Lakeview hosts Fishing University Television Show

Lakeview Junior Senior High School in conjunction with Mayor Lee Posey of the City of Natchitoches hosted Fishing University television show taping and student motivation presentation on Oct. 7. Lakeview was 1 of 13 locations chosen to be a part of “Fishing University” on the outdoors channel. The Fishing University show has been on television for 34 years. This event was introduced to Principal William Hymes by Mayor Lee Posey and the Chamber of Commerce in an effort to expose all students at Lakeview Junior Senior High School to the opportunities available through the professional fishing and outdoors experience. Local businessmen also helped make this event successful.

This was an event where grades 7 through 12 had an opportunity to listen to the top fishermen in the fishing profession share their experiences about growing up and making good choices which led to their professional lives. Emphasis was also placed on getting a great education as a foundation for student future success.

Special guest of the morning were professional anglers Ray Brazier, Charlie Ingram, Dean Rojas and Cameron Rojas. They were also joined by Brett Hortman the director of the Natchitoches National Fish. The fishing University camera crew was on site to tape the student assembly portion of the show with Lakeview students. Students were excited to have an opportunity to be on national television. Questions that students asked at the end of the segment showed that the presentation had a positive impact.

Several other schools fishing teams also showed up to enjoy the highlighting on fishing and outdoors sportsmanship as a career. Northwestern state University’s fishing team, Natchitoches Central’s fishing team and Lakeview Junior Senior High School’s fishing team were all present and wore their fishing jerseys to represent their fishing team and their school. Michael Longino serves as fishing Coach for Lakeview’s fishing team. He stated “This event was great motivation for Lakeview’s fishing team which will participate in a qualifier tournament on October 26, 2019.” Lakeview’s school fishing team is also scheduled for a tentative April 18, 2020 fishing tournament date.
