Natchitoches native receives state honor

Demetric Brown of the West Central Basketball Association was selected as the Outstanding Referee for the state of Louisiana for 2019. This award was presented by the Louisiana High School Officials Association. Brown contributes his success to God, his family, hard work, and making “doing the right thing” his habit.

Demetric is a graduate of Natchitoches Central High School where he played basketball. He went on to graduate from the Northwest Louisiana Technical Center (now the Central Louisiana Technical Community College). He soon began to referee high school and college basketball.

“I loved basketball from day one,” he said. “I started playing when I was old enough to dribble and shoot. Since I didn’t play in college refereeing is my way of staying around the game I love.”

As a referee for the West Central Basketball Association Demetric travels to games in Vernon, Sabine and Beauregard Parishes during basketball season. He first started in 2008.
