Young at Heart group celebrates Valentine’s Day at February meeting

Young at Heart met at the First United Methodist Church on Feb. 5 for lunch and a celebration of birthdays. The Valentine’s Day themed decorations were provided by the Faith Circle of Methodist Women.

Rousing songs by Joyful Sounds from Westside Baptist were led by Johnny and over a dozen regular and irregular members, like MC of the meeting Harvey Polk. The group performs around town and has singers from other churches join in, especially at nursing homes.

Birthdays were celebrated for Cilia Possoit, Dan Poole, Sam Watson, Carol Otte, Bennie Rhodes and Rev. Ron Brown. Bennie Rhodes also celebrated her wedding anniversary for February.

After a prayer by Rev. Brown, a good lunch of fried chicken and casseroles brought by members were shared. Anyone wanting to celebrate is invited first Wednesday of each month at eleven, at the church on 411 2nd street. It is free for new visitors, or bring a covered dish or $3.
