Natashia Jackson’s record-setting weekend landed her another round of honors from the Southland Conference on Wednesday.
Jackson, a senior from Houston, established a conference indoor record time of 53.65 in the 400 meters at the Arkansas Tyson Invitational on Friday. Coupled with her school indoor record time of 23.98 in the 200 meters, it was enough to land Jackson her second Southland Conference Indoor Track Athlete of the Week honor this season.
A product of Houston’s DeKaney High School, Jackson ranks 31st nationally in the 400 meters with her SLC record mark. In addition to her individual exploits, Jackson ran the opening leg of the 4×400 meter relay, which clocked the second-fastest indoor time in school history (3:42.52).
Jackson’s lead leg time of 53.83 in the 400 relay would tie for 44th nationally if run in an open 400 meters.
Her 200 meter time is .01 off the SLC lead this season, trailing only Imani Nave of Stephen F. Austin.
Jackson’s honor marks the fourth individual award of the indoor season for the Lady Demons. Jasmyn Steels has claimed pair of SLC Indoor Field Athlete of the Week nods.
