Louisiana’s modeling data show the state on course to require 2,500 new hospitalizations a day in the New Orleans area by mid-May, if the public does not adhere to COVID-19 mitigation measures like Gov. Edwards’ Stay at Home order.
Governor Edwards and the Louisiana Department of Health on Friday shared a product of the state’s COVID-19 modeling that takes into account the Governor’s aggressive mitigation measures.
“There are increasing efforts across the country to understand the impact of social distancing, school closures, stay at home orders and other mitigation measures as we strive to flatten the curve and slow the spread of this virus,” said Governor John Bel Edwards. “What we are seeing is that many Louisianans are taking this seriously. Unfortunately, there are still others who are not, and perhaps it is because we have not fully impressed upon all of our citizens the serious consequences of not staying at home.”
Projections are based on modeling that accounts for the rate of hospitalization and death, as well as the capacity of health care facilities and medical surge efforts in each region. Each scenario is based on the number of new people a COVID-19 positive patient infects. In the most favorable scenario, this number is lower, with fewer people being infected and fewer health care resources needed.
Louisiana releases data about hospitalized cases and hospital and ventilator use each day on its COVD-19 dashboard at ldh.la.gov/coronavirus
The product of the Department’s COVID-19 model shows differing scenarios based on how well the public participates in different mitigation efforts. This graph shows projected new hospitalizations per day under four different scenarios in Region 1 (the Greater New Orleans Area). As the Department builds out additional regional projections, it will share them with the public.
I’ve seen the same behavior here in natchitoches and it’s scaring the heck out of me. I work at home and have a daughter and an 11 month old here, as well as been fighting cancer 11 years and a compromised immune system and have to take a chemo drug. So no immune system basically. Had a panic attack after getting necessary meds filled. We are almost out of food and I’m scared to death to go to the store. People were slinging their babies into un-wiped down carts with no barrier between the baby and the handles. No face mask. Violating the 6-foot thing and then a guy wanted to start in on me when I told someone who walked up on me to step the f off. It turned into a yelling match. You can’t tell from looking at me that I have cancer or that I have no immune system or that I would rather die than being home death to my daughter and grandson. People in the parking lot standing around like it was a holiday and ain’t got a care in the world. I couldn’t figure out why our numbers are so bad. We don’t live on top of each other like in NY. But now I know. And we’ve got no one to blame for it but ourselves. And Trump.
how is this Trumps fault ?? people are being stupid and rude
but I got no clue in the world how this is Trumps Fault.
Have no choice, grocery cashier, only way to stay home is if we close off customers to delivery only
When will you dumb asses in Lake Charles La. get it. Yesterday on my was street just across the street there was a moving in party going on not 100 feet away. Not onlythat my wife was out resuppling our essentials at a local Walmart where she sees a whole family the father mother and yes three kids just strolling around the store. O yes I saved the worst for last. A young father with a newborn infant on his back instead of at least in front where he was not exposed to every paddy stranger!!Wake up Lake Charles or you WILL BE THE NEXT HOT SPOT WE SEE!! TRULY DUMB ASSES !!!
It’s sad you have people dying every second every minute. You have the Governor and Mayor expressing how impact it is for everyone to stay home. Your children could die from this virus there are entire families dying. What is it going to take for people to take this virus serious
If you have a love one in the hospital and you can’t be there with them. This is enough to drive you crazy knowing your one may not come home and die without you being there. This is a feeling no one wants to feel. Trust me I would do anything to have my family safe at home. People need to take this serious what is it going to make them realize they could die from this virus. If you value your life your love one life just stay home and keep your family safe.May we all come through this together free from the virus. No one deserves to die alone and then you can’t have a regular funeral. The hospitals morgue is filling up quickly. The funeral homes are going to be limited soon. Now is the time to pray and keep your family at home.
