In the midst of the Covid-19 pandemic, many of us are looking forward to fall gatherings, such as high school football games, to help reconnect as a community and provide a positive outlet for us to come together.
Recently, a few Natchitoches Central Football Alumni got together and shared our thoughts on how a successful football program helps the community. In many ways, a 5A public school football program is a reflection on a small community like Natchitoches. More importantly, for those who participate, it is influential to us as young men, builds character and leadership skills, and allows opportunities outside the classroom for young athletes.
After witnessing years of frustrating seasons, we as supporters, and new Head Football Coach, James Wilkerson, decided to organize a support group, The Quarterback Club, whose sole mission is to fund the Natchitoches Central Football Program. After meeting with Coach Wilkerson, we were pleased to discover all the positive changes he has made in just a few short months. For starters, Coach Wilkerson has incorporated the public junior high programs with the high schools, made coaching changes, including a new offensive coordinator, increased the freshman and varsity rosters, and worked long hours with the staff to improve the appearance of the facilities. In addition to the hard work and the help from the school board, and the administration at NCHS, the program can use your help. Money for many expenses has to be raised, and this group, team and coaches are willing to work hard to do that, but we want the community to be a part of this process as well.
The Quarterback Club would like to invite everyone to participate in rebuilding this important program for our community and youth with your time, or with financial support through a membership package. Our first fund raiser will be a barbeque chicken lunch, Friday, May 29th, in the Dixie Plaza parking lot. Advance tickets and office deliveries are available by contacting us on facebook @
