Natchitoches Police investigate shooting on Fern Street

Natchitoches Parish Sheriff’s Detectives are actively investigating an early morning double-shooting that left two young men in critical and serious condition according to Natchitoches Parish Sheriff Stuart Wright.

On Sunday morning August 2 at approximately 1:15am, Deputies assigned to the NPSO Patrol Division responded to NatCom 911 Center reports of a shooting at a birthday party in the 6000 block of US-84 near Clarence, La.

Responding units arrived on scene within minutes and observed several vehicles leaving the scene.

Deputies observed a two-vehicle crash on the shoulder of US-84 involvng a white Dodge Charger and blue Dodge Challenger.

Deputies began to investigate the crash and reported shooting discovering a male identified as 18-year-old Jamarrion D. Bush of Bossier City suffering from several apparent gunshot wounds to his body lying on the ground.

Five detectives assigned to the NPSO Criminal Investigations Division, NPSO Patrol, Natchitoches Regional Medical Center EMS, Natchitoches Parish Fire Protection District #3 and Air EVAC helicopter responded to the scene.

A heavy law enforcement presence was at the scene also special lighting equipment was brought to the scene to assist detectives with evidence collection.

At 1:29am, NatCom 911 Center received reports of an additional gunshot victim at a residence in the 100 block of Lee Street in Clarence.

Deputies responded and arrived on scene, discovering a male identified as 20-year-old Calvin Marcus Howard of Clarence suffering from an apparent gunshot wound to the thigh area.

Deputies learned Howard ran approximately 1/4 mile from the scene after the shooting to Lee Street to contact his mother.

Bush was airlifted from the scene to Rapides Regional Trauma Center in critical condition.

Howard was transported by private vehicle to Natchitoches Regional Medical Center and later transferred to Oschner LSU Health in serious condition.

Detectives processed the crime scene, gathered evidence and spoke with witnesses.

At this time we are in the early stages of the investigation working on some leads but do not have a suspect or suspects names that we believe left the area according to Criminal Investigations Division Major Reginald Turner.”

Detectives have been working throughout the night and throughout today investigating this shooting according to Sheriff Wright.

Detectives are currently in the process of gathering evidence and information to identify the person (s) responsible for this incident as well as a motive for the shooting.
