“Good Afternoon. I know many of you in the NSU family continue to struggle with the aftermath and recovery efforts from Hurricane Laura. You remain in my thoughts and prayers during this difficult time for our university, state and communities. Power has been restored in some areas over the weekend, but there are still large sectors in our service region without electrical service, especially in rural areas.
A number of faculty, staff and students have been on campus in the past few days assisting with clean-up and recovery. Your efforts are greatly appreciated and will be beneficial in allowing the university to quickly resume normal operations.
Because of power outages and storm damage cleanup and recovery, all classes, face-to-face and online, have been cancelled for the coming week and will resume on Tuesday, Sept. 8 at 8:00 a.m. Anything course-related including, but not limited to, due dates, assignments, and tests, will be adjusted. Please be patient as many instructors are without power or internet service and are unable to update their course due dates at this time.
Many offices at the University will begin re-opening tomorrow, Monday, Aug. 31, and others will resume operations throughout the week to ensure that we are providing assistance and services for our students.
Some of our personnel continue to face hardships related to the storm, and it is understandable that they might not be able to return to work immediately. Supervisors will advise us tomorrow of capabilities for reopening their offices and staff availability and we will continue to keep you updated.”
