Natchitoches Parish Sheriff’s Deputies investigating a complaint of all-terrain vehicles being operated recklessly on a north Natchitoches Parish road ended up leading to felony narcotics arrests and the seizure of methamphetamine and drug paraphernalia according to Natchitoches Parish Sheriff Stuart Wright.
NPSO Patrol Division deputies responded on Sept. 21 at 7:30 pm to reports of an all-terrain vehicle being operated recklessly on Sandy Point Road near Campti, La.
Deputies responded and while in the area observed an ATV on the roadway. The operator of the ATV attempted to elude deputies and fled to a residence located at 173 Harbor Estates Road, hiding the ATV under a shed.
Deputies exited their unit and walked up to the shed where the ATV was parked observing two individuals identified as Rufus Dunn and Donald Coleman involved in illegal narcotics activity.
Deputies observed suspected narcotics and drug paraphernalia in plain view.
Deputies say Dunn was startled and attempted to hide the narcotics. Both Dunn and Coleman were arrested. Deputies seized suspected methamphetamine, marijuana and drug paraphernalia. The adjoining residence and shed were secured.
Additional deputies and Natchitoches Multi-Jurisdictional Drug Task Force Agents responded to the scene to assist in the narcotics investigation. Agents secured a search warrant signed by a Tenth Judicial District Court Judge to search the residence.
During a search of the residence, agents discovered and seized a syringe containing suspected methamphetamine and drug paraphernalia.
As a result of the investigation:
Rufus I. Dunn, 44, of Montgomery, La. was transported and booked into the Natchitoches Parish Detention Center charged with Possession of CDS Schedule II Methamphetamine-2nd or Subsequent Offenses, Possession of CDS Schedule I Marijuana and Possession of Drug Paraphernalia.
Dunn was out on bond due to a April 15 felony narcotics arrest in Natchitoches Parish.
Donald Ray Coleman IV, 18, of the 100 block of Harbor Estates Road, Campti, La. transported and booked into the Natchitoches Parish Detention Center charged with Possession of CDS Schedule II Methamphetamine.
Both Dunn and Coleman remain in the Natchitoches Parish Detention Center awaiting bond.
The seized narcotics evidence will be submitted to the crime lab for narcotics analysis.

“Our deputies and law enforcement are always taught to be aware of their surroundings and be observant as in this case. Our deputy was investigating a ATV complaint but due to his observation skills and being alert it resulted in two felony arrests and the seizure of illegal drugs said Sheriff Stuart Wright”.
