It was a bit later in the year than usual and socially distant, but high school football has finally arrived in Natchitoches Parish! NSU’s Turpin stadium was the place to be Friday, September 25 for some hard hitting gridiron action as the Many Tigers came into town to scrimmage against the NCHS Chiefs under first year Head Coach James Wilkerson.
The two teams took turns in a series of offensive and defensive plays before the evening culminated in a half game played under actual conditions. The Many Tigers, a perennial contender for the state title, gave the Chiefs all they could handle in a relentless aerial attack from a talented offense. For their part, the Chiefs did not falter and showed the Tigers that the rock hard defense of years past still is very much in evidence. The Tigers won the scrimmage 7-0.
Both teams are well disciplined, well coached and gave an impressive showing. There is a lot to like about this year’s NCHS Chiefs. The Natchitoches Parish Journal would like to take this opportunity to wish the Chiefs a safe and successful season! Go Chiefs!
District play begins next Friday, Oct. 2 at home. Game time is 7 PM. LIVE RADIO COVERAGE can be heard on 95.9 Kix Country or online at the 95.9 KIX Country Facebook page.
