Grant Parish Sheriff Steven McCain’s Letter to the Citizens of Natchitoches Parish

September 30, 2020
Dear Natchitoches Parish Journal – Please publish the following:

To the Citizens of Natchitoches Parish,

On Aug. 27, 2020 Grant Parish, along with most of western Louisiana, experienced the worst natural disaster in our lifetime; Hurricane Laura.

100% of Grant Parish was without electricity, every water system failed, every road in the parish was blocked with trees and/or power lines, over 1,000 homes were destroyed or damaged, over $100,000,000 in timber was destroyed, and $5,000,000 worth of public buildings were damaged.

Many of my deputies’ homes were destroyed or damaged. They would work in terrible conditions and then try to find a place to rest with no air conditioning, only to return the next day to begin working again for the people of our parish.

Thanks to Natchitoches Parish Sheriff Stuart Wright, we received much needed help in the form of Natchitoches Parish Sheriff’s deputies sent to work shifts in Grant Parish.

As a citizen of Natchitoches Parish, you are very fortunate to have a Sheriff that not only cares about the people that he serves, but cares enough about the people of Louisiana to send help to neighbors in need.

The efforts of the Natchitoches Parish Sheriff’s Office will never be forgotten by the people of Grant Parish.

On behalf of our entire parish-Thank You!

Steven McCain
Grant Parish Sheriff

  7. So thankful for the assistance from our neighbors to the north and the public respect from Sheriff McCain. This is God’s Commandments in action.

    • And what exactly are YOU, LADY VALOR, trying to say? I guess you are implying the former sheriff never DID ANYTHING to assist ANYONE? Btw, what have YOU done to assist anyone in need? Anything at all? Go sit down somewhere.

    • Stuart, what a wonderful effort by you and the members of your department. Thank you for this display of leadership and meaningful cooperation to your colleagues in dire distress.

Natchitoches Parish continues to have reasons to be proud of who you are, the legacy of law enforcement from your predecessor, Vic Jones, and what you continue to do to help others.

      All the best.

      • I could not have said it better than Coley and the others. Stuart is setting a great example for our city.
