Kiwanis Club honors law enforcement officers, firefighter, teacher of the year at Officer Installation & Awards banquet

The Natchitoches Kiwanis Club held its annual Officer Installation and Awards Banquet on Oct. 1. Craig George led everyone in the Pledge of Allegiance and Rodney Boswell gave the invocation.

Richard Rose led club members in Kiwanis’ Defining Statement: Kiwanis is a global organization of volunteers dedicated to improving the world one child and one community at a time.

Northwestern State University’s Director of Development for the NSU Foundation, Jill Bankston, helped present Natchitoches native Meredith Phelps with the Kiwanis Club’s NSU Scholarship Award. Phelps mother Reba is a past president for the club so Meredith is no stranger to Kiwanis and its mission.

Rose then presented the following awards:
Firefighter of the Year- Brandon McKnight

Lawman of the Year for the City of Natchitoches- Officer Shane Garcie

Lawman of the Year for the Natchitoches Parish Sheriff’s Department- Deputy Adam Llorence

Lawman of the Year for the Louisiana State Police- Senior Trooper David Morvant

Teacher of the Year- Zenda Owens from Natchitoches Magnet

Distinguished Club Awards included:
Kiwanian of the Year- Craig Caskey
Volunteer of the Year- Jennifer Sims
Distinguished Service Award- Nettles Brown
Legion of Honor- John Ackel
Service Awards- Emily Settle, Jill Leo and Danielle Antoon Cobb

Lt. Gov. Tom Phillips performed the officer installation, turning the event over to new Kiwanis President Craig Caskey. Caskey then presented Rose with the President’s Award.

2020-2021 Club Officers are:
President- Craig Caskey
President Elect- Rodney Boswell
Immediate Past President- Richard Rose
Treasurer- Jessica Parker
Secretary- Heather Martin

2020-2021 Club Directors are:
Gina Banks- 1 year term
Ron Brown- 2 year term
Craig George- 3 year term
