The Village of Goldonna held a special called meeting on Tuesday, Dec. 1 to fill the recently vacated seat of the Chief of Police. The candidates that showed interest in the seat were Jeremy McGee, Lawrence Sampey, Devon Brister and Clint Coleman. Each candidate was present, with the exception of Jeremy McGee. His spouse, Nicole, was present and read a message on his behalf.
After the speeches were made, the Mayor and Council met to discuss the applicants. With a unanimous decision, Mr. Clint Coleman was appointed as the interim Chief of Police. Coleman was raised in Goldonna and his father was the first Mayor of Goldonna. According to Mayor Jennifer Smith, “All of the candidates were worthy and the council would have been happy with any of the candidates.”
According to the Secretary of State, Goldonna had 20 days to appoint a new Chief with the vacant seat. To make the position permanent there will be an election on March 20, 2021 with the qualifying period being January 20, 21, and 22 of 2021. If there are three or more candidates and no one receives 50% plus one vote, the top two candidates will be in a runoff April 24, 2021.
