A joint investigation by the Natchitoches Parish Sheriff’s Office and Sabine Parish Sheriff’s Office has led to the arrest of a wanted person and his companion attempting to pass a stolen check at a north Natchitoches Parish bank on Monday according to Natchitoches Parish Sheriff Stuart Wright.

The investigation began on Monday afternoon November 30 at approximately 12:05pm, when alert City Bank & Trust Company employees in Campti contacted the Natchitoches Parish Sheriff’s Office reporting individuals in a black Chevrolet Malibu attempting to cash a stolen check in the amount of $2000 dollars in the bank drive-thru.

Deputies assigned to the NPSO Patrol Division responded arriving within 2 minutes.

Welch was reportedly learned to be a prior employee of the business.

Deputies obtained permission to search the rental vehicle from Nash.

During a search of the vehicle, deputies recovered six Sabine State Bank and four City Bank & Trust Company checks that were stolen from the Sabine Parish business and a bottle containing a suspected CDS Schedule III narcotic.

Welch at that point stated he possessed all of the checks but added nothing further to detectives.

Nash who claimed to be Welch’s companion was also placed under arrest.

Deputies then began to do research on the vehicle and learned from a rental agency that the vehicle was a non-returned rental vehicle.

A wrecker service was contacted to impound the vehicle per request of the rental agency.
