NPSO MOURNING LOSS OF NPSO SHERIFF’S DEPUTY LANEY WRIGHT


Natchitoches Parish Sheriff Stuart Wright is saddened to announce the sudden and unexpected death of Natchitoches Parish Sheriff’s Deputy Laney Wright.

On New Year’s Eve December 31, 2020 at approximately 8:58pm, Natchitoches Parish Sheriff’s Deputies, Natchitoches Parish Fire District #1 First Responders and Natchitoches Regional Medical Center EMS responded to 911 reports of a medical emergency at Wright’s residence on Bayonne Road near Derry, La.
Responding units arrived on scene finding his close friend and nephew performing resuscitation efforts on Wright.

Resuscitation efforts continued but were sadly unsuccessful.

Shortly after, Deputy Wright was pronounced dead of suspected natural causes due to a cardiac event by Natchitoches Parish Asst. Coroner Steven Clanton.

Deputy Wright was a United States Army Veteran. After serving his country, he moved to Illinois for work.
Later he would return to his hometown Cloutierville moving to nearby Derry, La.
Deputy Laney Wright began his law enforcement career at the Natchitoches Parish Sheriff’s Office in 2000 under the leadership of Sheriff Victor Jones.

He initially worked in a part-time capacity as a reserve deputy working patrol and as a court bailiff. In February 2013 Deputy Wright was hired full-time as a deputy sheriff assigned to the NPSO Corrections Division until present under the leadership of Sheriff Stuart Wright.

Deputy Wright loved his community and his willingness to help others led him to join Natchitoches Parish Fire Protection District #1 as a volunteer fireman.

Deputy Wright is survived by his close friend, two daughters, 3 brothers, 6 sisters, grandchildren, nieces, nephews, family and friends.

Funeral arrangements are pending.

Sheriff Wright and the deputies of the Natchitoches Parish Sheriff’s Office extend our condolences to Deputy Wright’s family, friends and co-workers at the NPSO.
