City Council set to execute contract, bring Boys and Girls Club back to Natchitoches

The Natchitoches City Council agenda introduced an agenda item to execute a contract with the Boys and Girls Club of Acadiana. Natchitoches Boys and Girls Club Board Co-Chairs Van Erikson and Laura Lyles addressed the Council members about the return of the club.

“There’s a need for this organization in our community,” said Lyles.

There are 14 board members (all from Natchitoches): Dr. Grant Eloi, Gwen Cup, Lisa Harris, Howard Conday, Dr. Katrina Jordan, Rev. Steve McCalister, Dr. Greg Handel, Amy Metoyer, Dr. Carmella Parker, Mark Smith, De’Andrea Sanders, Em Horton, Reba Phelps, Rachel Proctor, Forrest Middlebrook, and Mayor Ronnie Williams Jr. as an ex officio.

The timeline for club operations to begin could be as soon as this summer for a summer program.

“This is such a huge thing for the City,” said Erikson.

ORDINANCES – FINAL:

Execute An Agreement Or Lease Of Public Property And Airspace With Red Sky Adventures, LLC, Whereby The City Of Natchitoches And The Board Of Commissioners Of Waterworks District Number 1 Will Lease Public Ground And Airspace Pursuant To The Terms Of R. S. 33:4712 And R. S. 33:4712.1 To Red Sky Adventures

ORDINANCES – INTRODUCTION:

Approve The Policy And Procedure For Applications For Rebate of Sales And Use Taxes For Natchitoches Economic Development District A and C (All businesses out at Interstate 49, Hobby Lobby, Church St. Inn and Chateau St. Denis). Jerry McWherter from the Natchitoches Tax Commission explained the 1% rebate (from 5.5% to 6.5%) that will go back to all businesses in Economic Development District A and C. While customers pay the sales tax, local businesses pay the “use” portion. The vendor has to present invoices totaling $10,000 or more to apply once a quarter for the 1% rebate. This rebate was granted to businesses during former mayor Lee Posey’s term after business owners were upset over being required to pay for a tax for operations and maintenance at Parc Natchitoches.

Extend The City Limits Of The City Of Natchitoches Annexing A Tract Situated In Section 32, Township 9 North, Range 7 West, Natchitoches Parish, Louisiana, Said Tract Owned By Braxton Keyser, LLC

Amend and Supplement Ordinance No. 1 of 2015 providing for the incurring of debt and issuance of not to exceed Four Million Dollars ($4,000,000) of Utilities Revenue Refunding Bonds, Series 2021, of the City of Natchitoches, State of Louisiana; prescribing the form, terms and conditions of said Refunding Bonds, designating the date, denomination and place of payment of said Refunding Bonds, providing for the payment thereof in principal and interest; authorizing the agreement with the Paying Agent; and providing for other matters in connection therewith.

RESOLUTIONS:

Execute Change Order No. 2 To The Contract Between The City Of Natchitoches And Regional Construction, LLC For Phase 3 Street Rehabilitation (Bid No. 0629)

Submit A Grant Application To The Louisiana Office Of Community Development, For The 2020 – 2021 Community Water Enrichment Fund (CWEF) Grant For The City Of Natchitoches, Louisiana.

Appoint Members To The Mayor’s Health And Fitness Council For The City Of Natchitoches including Johnny Barnes, Jameel Courtney, Debra LaCour, Tom Matuschka, Mike Moulton, Claire Prymus, Linda Queen, Alex Rodriguez, Betty Smith, Lisa Wiggins, Tiffany Williams, Feamula Bradley (Advisor), Blane Murphy and Dominique O’Con.

Authorize The Mayor To Accept Bids For Caustic Soda For The Water Treatment Plant (Bid No. 0634)

Support A Grant Application Submitted To The Louisiana Office Of Community Development, For The 2020 -2021 Local Government Assistance Program

ANNOUNCEMENTS:

The City of Natchitoches offices will be closed Monday, January 18, 2021 in honor of Martin Luther King, Jr.

The next scheduled City Council meeting will be Monday, January 25, 2021.

  1. After coaching softball and helping with soccer for a decade each, I know how important and enjoyable after school programs are for kids of all ages. I really enjoyed it too. The Boy’s and Girl’s Club is very worthwhile project.

  2. Thanks to all who is involved in bringing the Boys and Girls Club back! There’s enough money in the Community Improvements Foundation to fund it!
