Congratulations to the 2022 NSU Cheer Squad!

Twenty-two hopefuls tried out for slots on the 2022 Northwestern State University Cheerleading Squad Sunday, April 18 at NSU’s Prather Coliseum. Each of the prospective cheerleaders was graded as he or she performed partner stunts, the NSU fight song and tumbling. The 2022 NSU Cheer Squad will have a decidedly local flavor. Of the 22 students trying out, four were recently graduated former St. Mary’s Cheerleaders seeking to continue their careers as collegiate cheerleaders, while one of the returning cheerleaders is a former Lakeview Gator. The St. Mary’s cheerleading coach was joined by several SMS cheerleaders in supporting the Tiger alumnae trying out.
NSU Cheer keeps the Demon spirit flying high at football and basketball games throughout the year. They also support the university at community events. The team hones their skills each year at College Camp at Texas A&M and competes at the College Nationals in Orlando, FL.
The 2022 NSU Cheer Squad members are: Morgan Van Buren, Elise Vidrine, Presley Stewart, Annalise Sylvia, Izzy Peluso, Abby Williams, Paige Pruett, Meghan Bercegeay, Gabe Vargas, Gavin Acor, Tobias Jones, Dee Mitchell, Daniel Wellmeier, Emerson Rodrigue, Jessi Lucky, Joshua Graham, Carson Sanders, Aaron Dotson and Dre’lan Evans.
The Natchitoches Parish Journal extends its best wishes to the young men and women of the 2022 NSU Cheer Squad. May you have a safe and successful season and as always, Fork ‘em Demons!
