Northwestern State junior Cayla Jones closed out the regular season in style and was honored for her efforts. She reeled in the Southland Conference Hitter of the Week award following an impactful regular-season finale against Southeastern Louisiana.

Jones did the majority of her damage during the doubleheader Friday. Over the course of the two games, she hit for the cycle and boasted 10 RBIs.

Four of those RBIs were on one impactful swing. With Game 1 tied at 4-4 in the bottom of the sixth, Jones logged her second grand slam of the season. For good measure, she added a three-run triple in the nightcap Friday.

Jones ended the series at 6-for-9. That boosted her batting average to .309, which goes alongside seven doubles, one triple, four home runs and 24 RBIs.

This marks Jones’ third Hitter of the Week honor and first since 2019.

Northwestern State opens Southland Conference tournament play Tuesday. The Lady Demons will play the winner between No. 5-seeded Southeastern Louisiana and No. 8-seeded Abilene Christian.
