Northwestern State’s Henry picked to Coaches All-Midwest Region Team

The honors continue to pile high for Northwestern State defender Nicole Henry.

Henry was picked to the United Soccer Coaches All-Midwest Region Second Team this week, her second such honor in as many seasons.

The two-time Southland Conference Defender of the Year spearheaded an NSU defense that allowed just six goals in 14 matches.

The junior led a backline that held opponents to just 7.5 shots per game, and fewer than half of those on goal.

“Nicole is a special, special player,” said NSU co-head coach Jess Jobe. “She’s a player that coaches have had to prepare game plans for to account for all the ways she is dangerous and threatening.

“As a defender, she shuts down opponents and makes things difficult by making spaces seem smaller than they are. She’s also tremendous in distributing the ball from the back as we build possession. Nicole is such a huge part of our system.”

Henry appeared in all 14 matches for a NSU squad (9-3-2, 7-3-1) that finished tied for second in the Southland Conference.

The defender also appeared on the All-Midwest Team in 2019 after NSU allowed 1.27 goals on 8.5 shots per game.
