City Council learns about NJH student in need of help to attend Junior National Young Leaders Conference in Washington DC

The City Council learned at its May 24 meeting that Natchitoches Junior High student Barbara Clark was nominated by two of her teachers to attend the Junior National Young Leaders Conference in Washington DC in June.

The Junior National Young Leaders Conference (JrNYLC) is the premier leadership development program for middle school students.

Her father Marco said the nomination is a tremendous honor for Barbara, but the cost for the trip is $2,700. He’s trying to raise money and has $350 so far from friends and family members. If anyone is interested in donating to make it possible for Barbara to attend this 3 day event they can Cashapp @MarcoRAClark or send a check or money order to 502 Rowena Street, Natchitoches, LA 71457 pay to the order of Marco Clark for Barbara Clark trip to Washington DC. Deadline for donations is June 20.

Approve That Instrument Titled Cooperative Endeavor Agreement Between The City Of Natchitoches And Commcare Management Corporation, Which Agreement Provides For Cost Sharing For The Installation Of Utility Infrastructure, Including Electric, Water And Sanitary Sewer, Which Improvements Will Serve The Proposed Nursing Home Facility At 781 Louisiana Highway 494, As Well As Provide For Upgrades To The Existing Infrastructure And Accommodate Future Development In The Area; Prescribing Terms And Conditions For Said Agreement, And Authorizing The Mayor Of The City Of Natchitoches, Ronnie Williams, Jr. To Execute Same.

8. ORDINANCES – INTRODUCTION:
Authorize The Mayor Of The City Of Natchitoches To Award The Bid For Christmas Lighting Supplies. (BID NO. 0637)
Approve The Terms And Form Of A Cooperative Endeavor Agreement Between The City Of Natchitoches And Crime Stoppers Of Natchitoches, Inc. (NAME) And Authorizing The Mayor To Execute The Cooperative Endeavor Agreement (CEA) Between The City Of Natchitoches And Crime Stoppers Of Natchitoches, Inc. And Further Providing For Severability, And Further Providing For A Repealer And Effective Date Of Ordinance.

Authorize The City To Lease A Warehouse Located At The Southern End Of The ADM Mill Site Being Located Between Mill Street And The Railroad Right Of Way To Weyerhaeuser Trus Joist Setting The Terms And Conditions Of Same, And Authorizing The Execution Of The Lease By The Mayor, Ronnie Williams, Jr., After Due Compliance With The Law, And Further Providing For Advertising Of The Lease And An Effective Date.

Support Local Non-Profit Efforts To Seek Funding For A Memorial Sculpture And Monument To Clementine Hunter, For Dedicated Space Either In The Circle At The North End Of Front Street In Front Of The Louisiana State Museum, If Feasible, Or Nearby On The Riverbank Near The Roque House, And To Assist In Providing Any Ancillary Services Or Permitting For The Construction And Placement Of The Memorial And To Provide Maintenance For The Memorial Once Installed.

Award The Contract For Engineering Services For The LCDBG – CV HVAC Program.

Submit An Application To The Delta Regional Authority On Behalf Of The City Of Natchitoches For Sewer Systems

Renovations For The Keyser Avenue Lift Station.

Enter Into A Cooperative Agreement With The Louisiana Department Of Veterans Affairs To Support The Cost To

Operate And Maintain The Natchitoches Parish Veterans Service Office.

The next scheduled City Council meeting will be Monday, June 14, 2021.

  1. Very honored to support Ms. Barbara Clark in her endeavors in remembrance of my mother, a Natchotiches native, Norma “Josephine” McElroy.

  2. I think at this point and time when monuments and statues are being removed this thought of placing one is in poor taste. I’m sure there are several monuments or statues others would love to see in places and that’s not going to happen. So I don’t think this one should happen either.
