Two Natchitoches men arrested on drug charges

Natchitoches Parish Sheriff’s Deputies recently arrested two Natchitoches men on drug charges and seized over 15 ounces of suspected marijuana during a traffic stop on La. Hwy 1 just north of Natchitoches according to Natchitoches Parish Sheriff Stuart Wright.

On Thursday, May 27, at approximately 11:35am, Deputies assigned to the NPSO Patrol Division were patrolling on La. Hwy 1 near the Johnson Chute Road just north of Natchitoches when they stopped a 2011 Chevrolet Cruze for speeding 74 miles per hour in a posted 55 mph speed zone.

Deputies say the operator of the vehicle identified himself as 21-year-old Del Ray Berguin of Natchitoches.

Deputies say when they asked Berguin for his driver’s license he stated he did not have one”.

A LSP computer check revealed Berguin’s drivers license to be suspended.

During the traffic stop, deputies smelled a strong marijuana odor coming from within the vehicle.

Deputies say when they asked Berguin if he had any illegal narcotics in vehicle he reached into his trouser pockets and handed them a small bag of suspected marijuana.

Additional NPSO units and a Natchitoches Multi-Jurisdictional Drug Task Force Agent arrived on scene to assist.

A passenger in the vehicle was identified as 18-year-old Dequandrix Carvarius Johnson of Natchitoches.

Deputies indicated while speaking with Johnson they also asked if he had any illegal narcotics on his person in which he reached into his underwear and handed them a small bag containing approximately 24 grams of suspected marijuana.

During a search of the vehicle, deputies discovered a bag containing over 14 ounces of suspected marijuana and weighing scales.

Total weight including two other bags of marijuana found on Berguin and Johnson including large bag in vehicle is over 15 ounces.

Berguin claimed ownership of the large bag of suspected marijuana.

Deputies also learned that Berguin was wanted by the NPSO & Natchitoches Police Department on Failure to Appear warrants.
Both suspects were placed under arrest without incident.

*Del Ray Berguin, 21, of Natchitoches was transported and booked into the Natchitoches Parish Detention Center charged with Speeding 74/55, Driving under Suspension, Possession of CDS I Marijuana with Intent to Distribute, Possession of Drug Paraphernalia, Failure to Appear for Natchitoches PD, Failure to Appear in the 10th Judicial District Court on 2/23/2021 for Probation Review on DWI, No Drivers License and No Seat Belt.

Berguin has been released on $12,500.00 bond set by a 10th Judicial District Court pending a court appearance.

Dequandrix C. Johnson, 18, of Natchitoches was issued a misdeameanor citation on the scene for Simple Possession of CDS I Marijuana and released pending a court appearance.

The seized narcotics will be submitted to the crime lab for narcotics analysis.

Deputies believe the suspected marijuana was intended for distribution in the Natchitoches area.

Deputy J. Creighton was assisted by Deputy R. Head, Lt. S. LaCaze and the Natchitoches Multi-Jurisdictional Drug Task Force in the arrest.

    • The Detectives are in charge of solving murders. The officer’s on the road deserve way more credit. Think before you speak and place blame the officer……
