On 7/7/2021, Deputies assigned to the NPSO IMPACT team attempted to stop a red Nissan sedan for a traffic violation near the intersection of Highland Park and Texas St.
The vehicle stopped for a brief moment; however, it sped off leading to a brief pursuit, which later ended in the 400 block of Bonnette Street inside the city limits of Natchitoches
Upon stopping the vehicle, Deputies along with the assistance of NPD officers made contact with the driver of the vehicle, Charles McCray, 26, of the 200 block of Paula Lane Natchitoches, La and the passenger, Austin Johnson, 21, of the 300 block of Prather St. Natchitoches, La.
During the investigation, approximately 25 grams of suspected crack cocaine was located on the roadway near the traffic stop, which was later determined to have allegedly been thrown from the vehicle. Deputies also located a digital scale, $800.00 US currency, and approximately one gram of suspected marijuana inside the vehicle.
After interviewing both McCray and Johnson, Deputies had reason to believe that McCray had allegedly attempted to discard the suspected crack cocaine during the brief pursuit. Subsequent to the ongoing investigation, McCray was arrested and charged with the following charges:
• Possession of CDS II w/intent (crack cocaine)
• Possession of CDS I (marijuana)
• Possession of drug paraphernalia
• Driving under suspension
• Reckless operation
• Obstruction of Justice
• Aggravated flight from an officer
• Second or subsequent offenses
McCray was placed in the NPCD awaiting bond.
Austin Johnson was issued a misdemeanor summons for Possession of CDS I (marijuana) and Possession of drug paraphernalia. Johnson was released.
