Random Thoughts, From the Very Trivial to the Kind of Important!

By Joe Darby

I will start off with trivial. Want to know what one of my pet peeves is? Folks in a fast food outdoor line or a drive-through bank line who, after their transaction is complete, leisurely sit in their car, arrange their stuff, put their wallet back into their pocket or purse, then slowly drive off, completely oblivious to the time they’re wasting for everyone else in line. When you’re done, just pull up 25 feet or so and then arrange your bits and pieces so the guy behind you can move up. Okay?

This is more important. If you still think Donald Trump is a man of principle, and not just out for himself, listen to this fact. He has said he hopes leftist Democrat Stacey Abrams defeats solid conservative GOP Georgia Gov. Brian Kemp in Kemp’s bid for reelection. In 2018, Trump strongly supported Kemp and was all over Abrams. But Kemp has refused to support Trump in his misguided attempt to overturn the 2020 presidential election. So, tossing principle to the winds, Trump shows his true colors, like the little school boy bully he really is.

This is important, too. Irrefutable evidence of Joe Biden’s incompetence and misguided policies grows stronger each week. To name just a few, the horribly mismanaged withdrawal from Afghanistan, the fiasco at our southern border, the mishandling of his pet bank-busting $3.5 trillion spending bill, and many others, including his statement that the Department of Justice should look into parents who oppose vaccine and masking mandates for their children. They are like domestic terrorists, President Joe believes. Really? My gosh, are we in trouble.

Not that darned important. Not a good year, I don’t believe, for Louisiana football fans. The Saints are terribly inconsistent. LSU is shockingly under-achieving and you may need a telescope to see the next Northwestern State victory down the road. I’m enjoying the Major League baseball playoffs, with the World Series coming up in a few weeks after the prelims are over.

Much less important. There’s a viral video going around that shows a cute young blonde grinding her backside into the crotch of Jacksonville Jaguar coach Urban Meyer at at a bar where Urban was unwinding after his team’s latest loss. Of course, he’s apologized. But, oh, for the days before social media. The coach was no doubt misbehaving but I mourn the lack of any privacy any more.

An unimportant, but fascinating insanity. Producer Spike Lee believes that the Twin Towers were brought down by controlled internal explosions, not the airliner rammings. I don’t need to add anything here.

A rather important display of courage here. Philosophy Prof. Peter Boghossian of Portland State University has resigned his position because the liberal institution is no longer a place for free inquiry but a factory for pushing “race, gender and victimhood…whose only outputs were grievance and division.”

Finally, a very important and very sad fact. There have been five school shootings in the United States this week. God help us all.
