NPSO: CLOUTIERVILLE MAN INJURED IN INCIDENT ON LA. HWY 1 NEAR DERRY

(CLOUTIERVILLE)-A Cloutierville man suffered moderate injuries in an incident on La. Hwy 1 just south of Derry earlier today according to the Natchitoches Parish Sheriff’s Office.

On Friday afternoon, November 19, at approximately 2:24pm, Sheriff Stuart Wright, Natchitoches Parish Sheriff’s Deputies, Louisiana State Police, Natchitoches Regional Medical Center EMS, and Natchitoches Parish Fire Protection District # 1 First Responders responded to NATCOM 911 Center reports of an incident involving a sports utility vehicle and an injured bicyclist on La. Hwy 1 just north of Cloutierville.

Fire District #1 First Responders arrived on scene finding a unresponsive male lying in the southbound lane suffering from what appeared to be serious injuries.

Air EVac Lifeteam helicopter was dispatched to the scene.

Deputies say the preliminary investigation revealed that 34-year-old Shalonda Green of Natchitoches was operating a 2001 Ford Expedition traveling northbound on La. Hwy 1.

At some point, while traveling northbound, Green apparently allowed 29-year-old Ryan Jefferson of Cloutierville who was riding a bicycle to hold on to the driver’s side of the vehicle and tow him.
As they were traveling northbound, north of Cloutierville, Jefferson’s balance apparently shifted while being pulled on the bicycle. He was ejected from the bicycle onto the roadway.

The bicycle left the roadway on the left side coming to a rest in the southbound ditch.
Jefferson was airlifted from the scene to an Alexandria hospital with moderate injuries.

Deputies and Detectives assigned to the NPSO Criminal Investigations Division spent most of the afternoon and evening interviewing witnesses.

Green was cited for Driving under Suspension and Careless Operation of a Vehicle.
Deputies say the investigation is continuing.
