NPSO: CLOUTIERVILLE MAN WANTED FOR FAILURE TO REGISTER AS SEX OFFENDER ARRESTED BY DEPUTIES FOLLOWING STRUGGLE DURING ARREST NEAR CHOPIN

(CHOPIN)-A Cloutierville man wanted by the Natchitoches Parish Sheriff’s Office Sex Offender Unit on a outstanding felony warrant for Failure to Register as a Sex Offender was arrested on Wednesday afternoon near Chopin following a struggle with deputies according to the Natchitoches Parish Sheriff’s Office.

On Wednesday afternoon, December 8 at approximately 3:00pm, a NPSO Sheriff’s Deputy observed a stranded blue Ford Explorer on La. Hwy 490 near the Cane River Bridge in Chopin, La.

The deputy recognized a person walking near the vehicle as being Jeremy Reyna of Cloutierville wanted by the NPSO on a outstanding felony criminal warrant signed by a 10th Judicial District Court Judge for Failure to Register as a Sex Offender.

When the deputy stopped and made an effort to make the arrest, Reyna resisted yelling “You going to have to shoot me, I’m not going to jail.” Reyna continued to resist leading to a struggle between he and the deputy on the ground near the east side of the bridge.

During the struggle, the deputy requested back-up. Another deputy working a nearby security detail responded to assist arriving within a couple of minutes. Additional NPSO and a LSP Unit were also responding to the Officer Needs Assistance call.

When the second deputy arrived on scene, Reyna continued to resist yelling “yall gonna have to shoot me, I know I have a warrant, I’m not going to jail this is my second time I know what the paper says.”

That deputy continued to use de-escalation tactics as additional units arrived to assist. Shortly thereafter Reyna was taken into custody.

Both the deputy and Reyna were treated and released at Natchitoches Regional Medical Center for lacerations and bruises.

Jeremy M. Reyna, 31, of Cloutierville was transported and booked into the Natchitoches Parish Detention Center charged with Failure to Register as a Sex Offender-Tier 1 Offender/2nd Offense, Battery on a Police Officer and Resisting Arrest.

Reyna’s first Failure to Register conviction was on August 27, 2019 in the Tenth Judicial District Court.

Reyna informed deputies he had recently used illegal narcotics.

Reyna remains in the Natchitoches Parish Detention Center.
