Local powerlifter sets state records, qualifies for Nationals in Vegas

Twelve-year-old Alyssa Waters is a 7th grader at St. Mary’s. She plays Jr. High Softball and Basketball, is a member of the Jr. Beta Club, and maintains a 4.0 GPA.

In May of 2018, at the age of 9, Alyssa set five state records at the Powerlifting Louisiana State Games, which she still holds.

Alyssa took second place in the Youth Division and set five additional state records in the Youth 3 category on Jan. 16, 2021 at the Ragin Cajun Powerlifting Meet in Abbeville. She trained three-days-a-week for five weeks after her school practices for this meet.

Bench 88 lbs
Deadlift 231.25 lbs

Alyssa qualified for Nationals in June in Vegas. She is coached by her parents Latnie L. Brewton IV and Nikki Brewton.
