(Near Gorum)-Natchitoches Parish Sheriff’s Deputies and Louisiana Department of Transportation and Development have recovered a stolen utility trailer on La Hwy 119 near its intersection with the Longleaf Trail just south of Gorum according to the Natchitoches Parish Sheriff’s Office.

Around 3 pm, La DOTD contacted NPSO Sgt Barry Dalme reporting an abandoned 2009 Top Hat 16-foot trailer on La Hwy 119 near the Longleaf Trail.

Sgt Dalme responded and shortly after arriving on scene, it was learned that the trailer had been stolen from a business on La Hwy 1 just north of Natchitoches probably last night.

Deputies have released the trailer to the owner.

Deputies remind the public if you own a utility trailer to please secure it when not in use. Recently criminals are stealing utility trailers to facilitate other criminal activity such as stealing all terrain vehicles, tractors and other equipment.

Lock your vehicles at night, don’t leave valuables or firearms in plain view.

Home surveillance systems and exterior lighting such as street lights also help deter crime.

If you observe suspicious activity in your community, contact the NPSO at 352-6432 or 911. Always attempt to provide dispatch a description of the vehicle or person when calling in a complaint.
