NPDC EDUCATION PROGRAMS AWARDS FOUR GED AND ONE ASSOCIATE DEGREE TO CURRENT JAIL INMATES

Natchitoches Parish Sheriff Stuart Wright and NPSO Major of Corrections Roger Henson presented four Natchitoches Parish Detention Center inmates GED certificates and one inmate Ashland College Associate Degree following their completion of HiSET educational instruction and college curriculum studies during graduation ceremonies at the Natchitoches Parish Detention Center on Friday, May 20 according to the Natchitoches Parish Sheriff’s Office.

NPDC Education Coordinator Deputy Monia Jackson, MA said, “We offer this educational opportunity to offenders housed at the detention center, to assist them in gaining educational skills and knowledge that leads to productive and practical work experiences. It aids offenders in transitioning back into the community upon release with a diploma or college degree.”

Graduates were: Oscar Moody, Otis Sneed, Chad Olivier, Alvin Brown and Spencer Eschete-Ashland Graduate.

Attending the ceremonies were: Major Roger Henson, Deputy Jarvis Robinson-Education Instructor, Cara Stanfield-Ashland College, Director, Deputy Monia Jackson-Education Coordinator, Chief Greg Dunn, Major Doug Rachal, Deputy Margarita Johnson-Turner.

Deputy Jackson recognized Deputy Jarvis Robinson and Deputy Margarita Johnson-Turner for working diligently with the HiSET program and making it a success.

The educational programs offered at the Natchitoches Parish Detention Center are approved by the Louisiana Department of Corrections and La. Department of Education.
