City Council recognizes Mason McCart, 2022 National Beta Club President

The Natchitoches City Council recognized Mason McCart at its Aug. 8 meeting as Mayor Ronnie Williams Jr. presented him with a plaque. McCart, a senior at St. Mary’s Catholic School, was recently elected as the President of the National Beta Club at the National Beta Club Conference in Nashville, Tennessee.

McCart hopes to spread love and compassion wherever he goes and to be a role model for kids who don’t fit in.

“It’s okay not to always color inside the lines,” he said.

The mission of the Beta Club is to promote the ideals of academic achievement, character, service and leadership among elementary and secondary school students. Mr. Michael Landry, a history teacher at St. Mary’s, has been the club sponsor for the last thirty years. This is the second consecutive year for the school’s club to have a national officer. Anna Kate Jackson was elected as national president in 2021.

With the campaign slogan, “McCart Has Heart!,” Mason competed against twelve other candidates for the office.
