Natchitoches Parish Sheriff’s Detectives are currently investigating a shooting on Saturday evening that left a Natchitoches man hospitalized in serious but stable condition according to Natchioches Parish Sheriff Stuart Wright.
On Saturday evening, August 6, 2022 at approximately 10:16pm, Deputies assigned to the NPSO Patrol Operations Bureau responded to two NATCOM 911 Center reports, one being shots fired in the area of Independence Drive just south of Natchitoches, and the other of a bullet rounds striking a residence and penetrating the bedroom wall of a juvenile in the 200 block of Independence Drive.
Units arrived on the scene within 5 minutes.
Deputies spoke with the homeowner, collected information for an offense report then began to photograph and process the crime scene.
Deputies then began to walk along Independence Drive discovering and collecting multiple fired bullet casings along the road.
Shortly thereafter, a Natchitoches Police Sgt. working a security detail at Natchitoches Regional Medical Center contacted the Natchitoches Parish Sheriff’s Office reports that a 24-year-old Natchitoches man had been brought into the emergency room by private vehicle suffering from a gunshot wound to the shoulder.
Detectives assigned to the NPSO Criminal Investigations Division were notified of the shooting and responded to assist in the investigation.
Detectives say during the preliminary stages of the investigation, there were several conflicting statements as to where the shooting took place, and only limited information was provided by the victim to assist law enforcement.
Detectives, however, determined the shooting took place on Independence Drive due to evidence collected and a residence being struck by gunfire.
As the investigation continued, detectives learned that the victim was visiting a friend in the area, when several subjects began shooting at him striking him at least one time in the shoulder.
The victim was treated at Natchitoches Regional Medical Center and airlifted to a local trauma center in serious but stable condition.
There are no suspects at this time. This is an ongoing investigation. If you have any information contact the NPSO Criminal Investigations Division at 318-357-7830.
