The dynamic duo of Breanna Burrell and Symone Wesley were named to the Preseason All-Southland Conference Team on Wednesday, the first such honor for both players at Northwestern State.
Both players find their way to the 2022 preseason second team after earning spots on the 2021 All-Southland third team following last season. Wesley was also named conference newcomer of the year, the first for NSU.
The six-rotation Wesley was well deserving of her individual award after leading the Lady Demon offense with 2.68 kills per set and helping bolster the defense with 2.83 digs per set. Both averages landed her in the top 10 in the conference in each category, the only player to do that.
She had six kill-dig double-doubles during conference play and 10 total on the season. She set a career high with 31 digs against UT Arlington and one of most complete performances came in a 17-kill, 17-dig performance against Nicholls.
Burrell was the second most productive offensive force on the team, coming in with a 2.67 kill per set average, bumping up to a 3.0 kill per set average during conference play.
She reached double-digit kills 15 times during the season including setting a career best with 19 against UT Arlington. She also produced a 15-kill performance against Prairie View A&M where she had just one error for a .538 attack percentage.
Burrell and Wesley will look to build on their production into the 2022 season which begins on Aug. 26 as NSU faces ULM in the Texan Invitational to open the year.
