In an exciting beginning to the school year, several hundred students, parents and family members packed East Natchitoches Elementary School’s open house Thursday, Aug 18. Fifth year Principal Chrystal Davis introduced her 40 dedicated faculty and support staff and spoke to the attendees about her expectations for the year. The school will host 333 young scholars in 5th & 6th grades.
East Natchitoches Elementary School offers a full lineup of extra-curricular activities to keep the fun and learning going on past the classroom hours. The boys and girls may choose from 4-H, basketball, cheerleading, dance, theater, and step team. The school is also offering an art elective under first year teacher Daniel Rockett. There are ample opportunities to learn, grow and have fun at East Elementary School!
The school is serious about student learning. The district has placed an instructional coach at the school, as it has at each of the other schools, to mentor teachers. East Elementary School produced growth in all four areas of testing last year, science, math, ELA and social studies. In addition, the percentage of students scoring at the Mastery level went up with several going on to the advanced level on their tests. East students are also a force to be reckoned with in science. They have fielded a team each of the past several years at the regional science fair, with some going on to represent the parish at the state level. That is a remarkable record of accomplishment.
The Natchitoches Parish Journal is always glad to see sharp young men and women who graduate from our local high schools, go on to NSU and choose to come home to start their teaching careers. Ms. Amber Raggio is a 2012 alumnae of NCHS who went on to earn a bachelor’s degree from NSU in 2015, a Master’s in Public Health from UAB in 2019, and a second Master’s from NSU in 2022. This is her first year of teaching. She will be teaching 5th grade science. Welcome home Ms. Raggio!
The Natchitoches Parish Journal wishes the boys and girls of the East Natchitoches Elementary School all the best in their academic journey through the school year. We are looking forward to seeing your accomplishments.
