DEQUINCY – St. Mary’s scored the first 21 points in yet another fast start as the Tigers won their third straight game in a 42-14 thrashing of DeQuincy.

With usual workhorse Joe Metoyer receiving limited work, the Tigers (3-1) turned to quarterback Adam Parker and offensive threat Drake Griffin to carry their lunch pails.

Both Parker and Griffin topped the 100-yard rushing mark as Parker had a hand in all six touchdowns.

Parker rushed for five scores and threw for another as the Tigers averaged nearly 10 yards per play en route to 482 yards.

“We played well in certain situations, but we turned the ball over and had too many penalties,” said St. Mary’s coach Aaron York, whose Tigers lost three fumbles and committed five penalties. “But it’s a good win on the road.”

Parker started the scoring with a 26-yard run midway through the first quarter and added a second rushing touchdown midway through the second quarter for a 14-0 lead.

St. Mary’s executed their two-minute drill before the half as Parker connected with Ethan Busby for a 36-yard touchdown strike with 18 seconds left, boosting the Tigers to a 21-0 edge.

Parker rushed for 107 yards and added another 210 through the air on 9-13 passing.

Griffin contributed 101 rushing yards and a 38-yard catch.

DeQuincy (0-4) got the running game going enough to squeeze out a third-quarter touchdown to cut the deficit to 21-7.

But St. Mary’s scored the next three – all Parker rushing touchdowns – before DeQuincy added its second score.

DeQuincy rushed for 287 yards and averaged nearly eight yards per rush, but St. Mary’s stood tall when it counted, forcing DeQuincy to convert just 4-17 on third down.

St. Mary’s Payne Williams led all receivers with 91 yards on four catches to go with his six extra points.
