Rapides couple arrested following I-49 road rage incident

(Cypress)-Natchitoches Parish Sheriff’s Deputies recently arrested a Rapides Parish couple in connection with a road rage incident on Interstate-49 according to the Natchitoches Parish Sheriff’s Office.
 
On Saturday, Nov. 3, at approximately 2 pm, Deputies assigned to the NPSO Patrol Operations Bureau responded to NATCOM 911 Center reports of a road rage incident on I-49 near milepost# 16 north of Chopin.
 
A motorist contacted NATCOM 911 Center reporting that while traveling northbound on I-49 near milepost #116 with his family, and their 1-year-old child, another motorist in a white sports utility vehicle pulled alongside them rolled down their window and pointed a handgun at them.
 
Several deputies responded to the area to BOLO (be on the lookout) for the suspect vehicle while the complainant briefed communications operators periodic updates of their location to broadcast to responding units.
 
Deputies staged in the Cypress area.
 
A deputy stopped the 2014 GMC Yukon as it exited I-49 and entered La. Hwy. 120 in Cypress.
2-additional back-up units arrived on scene.
 
Deputies identified the operator of the vehicle as 28-year-old Stephen D. Triggs, of Alexandria.
 
A NLETS computer check revealed that Triggs driver’s license was suspended and he was a convicted felon.
 
A passenger in the vehicle was identified as 30-year-old Stephanie D. Jones of Alexandria.
4-children were also in the vehicle.
 
Deputies say during the traffic stop, they asked Triggs if there were any weapons in the vehicle in which he responded that “he was unaware of any in the vehicle.”
 
Deputies then asked the passenger if there were any weapons in the vehicle in which she responded “in the console.”
 
Deputies recovered a loaded Smith & Wesson 9mm semi-automatic handgun with an attached gun light.
 
A NCIC Firearms Check revealed that the handgun had been reported stolen to Natchitoches Police Department.
 
Deputies arrested:
 
*Stephen D. Triggs, 28, of Alexandria transported and booked into the Natchitoches Parish Detention Center charged with 3-Counts of Aggravated Assault with a Firearm, Illegal Possession of a Stolen Firearm, Possession of a Firearm by a Person Convicted of a Felony, Child Desertion and Driving under Suspension.
 
*Stephanie D. Jones, 30, of Alexandria transported and booked into the Natchitoches Parish Detention Center charged with Illegal Possession of a Stolen Firearm. Deputies say after they arrived at the detention center, a female corrections deputy discovered suspected marijuana concealed on Jones person. Jones was also charged with Simple Possession of Marijuana and Introduction of Contraband into a Penal Institution.
 
Both suspects are awaiting bond.
 
The children were released at the scene to relatives.
 
The stolen firearm will be released to Natchitoches Police Department for further investigation.
