Echoes From the Civil Rights Movement – a Presentation by NSU’s Alpha Phi Alpha Chapter

Northwestern State University’s chapter of Alpha Phi Alpha, a fixture of NSU’s Greek life since 1973, presented the 3rd annual Martin Luther King Day program at the Louisiana Sports Hall of Fame and Northwest History Museum Saturday, January 14.

Different brothers in the chapter spoke on several topics: the fraternity’s history at NSU, the fraternity’s history as well as famous Alphas such as Dr Martin Luther King and Justice Thurgood Marshall, and the history of the civil rights movement in Natchitoches. There was also a poetry reading and a reading of Dr. King’s iconic “I Have a Dream” speech. Ms. Allyson Adams of NSU’s superb Lifted Voices choir performed a beautiful rendition of “Glory”. After the event, the brothers served refreshments to the audience members.
