Fatality involved in apartment fire

Natchitoches Fire Department received a call at 5:33 p.m. reporting a structure fire at 1331 Washington Street with possible entrapment. Engines 1 and 3, Rescue 1, Truck 1, Chief 2 along with Fire Investigations, Training and Safety Officer and Chief 1 responded to the scene. Fire department units arrived on scene to find heavy smoke and fire coming from an apartment located on the first floor of 1331 Washington Street. Pre-connected hose lines were pulled to extinguish the fire and a hydrant connection established while the other as arriving crews searched and evacuated the other apartments located at the occupancy. Unfortunately there was one fire fatality found in the room where the fire began. The State Fire Marshal’s Office was notified due to the fire fatality. The scene was turned over to the State Fire Marshal’s Office and the investigation is ongoing.

A fire that occurred on Feb. 9 around 5:30 pm was quickly contained by first responders at the On the Cane Apartments, located on the river side of Washington Street. It is now under investigation by the Louisiana State Fire Marshals Office. While no further information is available at this time, the NPJ was able to confirm that there was a fatality involved.
