All Together Now: Library kicks off Summer Reading Program

There was quality family fun for readers of all ages to be had as the Natchitoches Parish Public Library held registration Saturday, June 3 for its Summer Reading Program. The program is not just for elementary aged schoolchildren, there are categories for teens and adults as well.

The event featured face painting, the library’s ubiquitous popcorn machine, and cotton candy. Local musicians entertained the crowd and allowed the children to show off their drumming skills. A petting zoo was on hand with everything from hamsters to ponies. The theme of this year’s Summer Reading Program is “All Together Now”. In addition to the prizes for reading books, the library will host fun programs throughout the summer.

Eight sharp young people from the library’s Teen Advisory Board volunteered to paint faces and help with children. The Teen Advisory Council is open to any Natchitoches parish resident between the ages of 11 and 17. The group meets once a month and advises the library on books and programs for young people. The Teen Advisory Board is an excellent way to get involved in your community and make your voice heard. If you are interested in joining the Teen Advisory Board, please contact Ms. Brandi Futrell, Teen Programmer, at brandi@natlib.org.
