St. Mary’s Welcomes New Staff Members

St. Mary’s Catholic School is pleased to welcome the following educators to their staff for the 2023-24 school year.

Peyton Green begins her career as the new third grade teacher.  She is originally from Hattiesburg, Mississippi, but moved back to her family’s hometown in 2015 and attended St. Mary’s.  She is a 2019 graduate and continued her education at Northwestern State University where she received her Bachelor of Science in Child and Family Studies.  Peyton attends both Holy Cross Catholic Church and The Nativity of the Blessed Virgin Mary Catholic Church in Campti. Her dream has been to educate children in the same Christian environment that she was fortunate enough to be a part of.  Peyton hopes to bring a new light to the third-grade classroom.  She feels St. Mary’s is a lifetime family and cannot wait to meet all of the wonderful new and old faces that make St. Mary’s a home.

Maria Sanchez is the new high school Spanish teacher at St. Mary’s. Maria will also serve as the Religion teacher for ninth and tenth grade students. She is originally from Asturias, in northern Spain, where she received her Bachelor of Arts in English Language and Literature. She came to the US on a full scholarship to the University of Massachusetts at Amherst where she obtained a PhD in Hispanic Linguistics. Maria became an American citizen 5 years later in 1997. After 31 years of teaching in the public education system, she retired from the Louisiana School of Math, Science and Arts as Professor Emeritus in the Spring of 2023.  Her experience includes two years of teaching at the college level, and 29 years at the high school level.  While at LSMSA, she was the sponsor of the LSMSA Catholic Club (The Real Presence) from 2014 till 2023.  Maria is a parishioner of the Minor Basilica of the Immaculate Conception Church, a member of America Needs Fatima (since 2014) and of the Institute of Catholic Culture (since 2021). She served for several years at Holy Cross Catholic Church as a Eucharistic Minister for the sick, participated with the music ministry, and was a pre-Confirmation teacher. In her free time, she enjoys spending time with family and doing Bible study. Maria is passionate about her Catholic Christian Faith and considers it a huge blessing to have the opportunity to teach at St. Mary’s this next academic year.  Maria is very excited to begin working in a Catholic School with an exceptional team of colleagues and being able to serve a terrific group of students in a Christian environment.

John Scott was born and raised in Natchitoches and is a fourth-generation alumni of St. Mary’s Catholic School.  He received his Bachelor of Science in Business and Accounting from Northwestern State University.  He continued his education and obtained his Juris Doctorate from Louisiana State University Law Center.  John has served in the Catholic Church as a lector while maintaining numerous leadership positions within multiple service organizations, including the Knights of Columbus, Rotary and the Indian Aquatic Club.  He and his wife, Sue Scott, are members of St. Augustine Catholic Church.  John is excited to continue his service to others by joining the teaching ranks at St. Mary’s for junior high, as well as eleventh grade, religion.
