Kiwanis Learns About New High School Industrial Training Program

The Kiwanis Club of Natchitoches held its weekly meeting on Aug. 17 where club president Craig George gave updates on club news and upcoming events.  Club Secretary Craig Caskey gave a positive report on the upcoming 5K Color Run and Pancake Festival and encouraged members to keep working with community business partners about sponsorship opportunities.

George invited Dr. Grant Eloi, Natchitoches Parish School Board superintendent, to the podium to start off their program.  Eloi introduced Mike Stewart, consulting instructor for the new pilot manufacturing program.  Stewart, along with the school board’s Felicia Pinkney, received applications from last year’s juniors to fill the 10 slots available for this year’s high school seniors.  Seniors from both Natchitoches Central and Lakeview High come together during their first block period to learn industry pertinent topics such as electrical, pneumatics, and hydraulics, giving these students an advantage as they enter the workforce after their high school graduation.
