On Thursday, September 28, 2023 at 17:20 Hours the City of Natchitoches Fire Department was dispatched to a Structure Fire at 1815 South Drive Lot 1324. Engines 1 and 2, Rescue 1, T-1, C1, C2 and C4 were dispatched to the scene. Fire crews arrived on scene to find smoke coming from a mobile home with the occupants of the mobile home spraying water from a garden hose on the fire. A pre-connected hose line was pulled from the Engine 1 to extinguish the fire. Firefighters made entry into the structure and found that occupants had extinguished most of the fire in the kitchen area prior to fire department arrival but did find hot spots in the walls between the kitchen and the bedroom area. All hot spots were extinguished. The occupant was assessed by NRMC EMS personnel for burn injuries. No other civilian or firefighter injuries were reported. Fire department personnel placed all the units back in service and returned to Central.
Remember our 2023 Fire Prevention Week message, Cooking Safety Starts With YOU. Pay attention to fire prevention.
Did you know cooking fires are the leading cause of home fires and home fire injuries? Unattended cooking is the leading cause of cooking fires and deaths.
The good news is that you can prevent most cooking fires and burns. Help keep your family safer with some simple but effective tips.
1. Turn pot handles toward the back of the stove. Always keep a lid nearby when cooking. If a small grease fire starts, slide the lid over the pan and turn off the burner.
2. Watch what you heat. Set a timer to remind you that you are cooking.
3. Have a “kid free zone” of at least 3 feet, or 1 meter, around the stove and areas where hot food or drink is prepared or carried.
