NSU’s Svoboda earns conference player of the week

Following a week of high-level production and consistency, Northwestern State libero Ashlyn Svoboda has been named Southland Conference Defensive Player of the Week.

This is the second defensive honor for the Demons this season as Svoboda joins Reaghan Thompson who won the award two weeks ago.

This past week Svoboda led the Demons in all three of their matches, topping 20 digs in a pair of five-set matches at Texas A&M-Commerce and Lamar. She had 27 digs against Commerce and 24 against Lamar, her second and third best single match totals of the season. She finished the weekend with 15 digs in three sets at HCU.

The pair of 20-digs performances give Svoboda a total of 13 such matches in her now one and a half seasons as the NSU libero.

Svoboda averaged 5.08 digs per set on the week, her highest single week average of the season and the third highest average in a week during the regular season in her career.

On top of her elite dig totals, Svoboda went a perfect 61-for-61 on service reception opportunities during the week.

She currently ranks second in the Southland in digs per set across all matches at 4.32 digs per set, third in total digs with 255 and leads the conference with 103 digs in SLC matches so far this year.

NSU returns home for a pair of matches this week beginning on Thursday night at 6:30 p.m., against Texas A&M-Corpus Christi.
