It is an indication of the sterling quality of NSU’s music education program that many of the bands at the Classic on the Cane held this past Saturday are NSU alumni and that many of the members of the Spirit of Northwestern Band are alumni of high school bands led by NSU graduates. 

One of the more notable examples is a father-daughter duo from East Texas. The Chism High School Band of Paris, Texas is led by band director John Marsh, a 1998 NSU alumni. His daughter, Harmony Marsh, is a Sophomore in Music Education at NSU, and plays in the Spirit of Northwestern’s front ensemble. Harmony got to play for her father and his band during the Spirit of Northwestern’s show at the close of the competition.

The Natchitoches Parish Journal wishes to commend the Chism High School Band on their superb performance in this year’s Classic on the Cane. We would also like to extend our best wishes to Ms. Harmony Marsh in her studies at NSU. Fork ‘em Demons!
