After turning in portfolios detailing their academic success and dedication to community/school engagement, and going through an interview process, three finalists were chosen for the 2023-24 Student of the Year competition on Nov. 16. The winners were: Rachel Key for 5th Grade (NSU E-Lab), Jasmyn Carpenter for 8th Grade (Magnet), and Molly Coleman for 12th Grade (Natchitoches Central).
A committee of community members interviewed each student. The committee included Katrice Below, Dennis Breland, Carmella McCart, Sarah Mallette, Annie Oliphant, Linda Page, Dewayne Chelette and Corey Poole. Student of the Year is organized by Anita Dubois.
Students received a goodie bag, presented by Dewayne Chelette on behalf of Vaughn Chevrolet Buick in Natchitoches and free books from the Natchitoches Parish School District. Committee members were treated to lunch and snacks thanks to BOM.
