As I formally announce my candidacy for the mayor’s office, I would offer voters in the City of Natchitoches the assurance that experience matters.

It was my honor to serve eight years as mayor, and before that, 20 years as a member of the City Council. I have the knowledge, the perspective and the desire to continue to serve, and that’s why I am running for mayor.

Before my two terms as mayor, I spent 36 years as owner and operator of Posey’s Sports Center. I have been involved in leadership positions for community, university, and church organizations for longer than that. I believe in personal contribution and the servant-leader concept.

The four most important priorities in my life have been my faith, my family, the City of Natchitoches, and Northwestern State University.  I have tried to live a life of service in every aspect.

I am proud of what we accomplished in my 28 years of official service to our city, and I am confident that my experience makes me the best choice in the upcoming mayor’s election.

I have talked with many citizens who, like me, are very proud of all the wonderful assets and qualities that we have in Natchitoches. However, I believe we can and must address areas of concern and seize opportunities for progress.

In the upcoming weeks, before early voting begins on March 9 and Election Day on March 23, I will share my thoughts on six “Posey Points” of emphasis for the next four years.

• Crime and the safety of our families
• Leading an in-depth study of our utility fees and rescinding the utility rate increase scheduled for May 2024 that will be hurtful to a wide range of our citizens
• Addressing our infrastructure system, including water, sewer, electrical and streets
• Emphasizing economic development and workforce training 
• Working with the NSU leadership, administrators, and NSU Athletics to support and advance our university and strengthen our community
• Implement further development of the “Natchitoches Next: City of Natchitoches Comprehensive Master Plan” to provide a road map for the future of our community.
